With music professors as parents, Anthea observed effective teaching throughout her life and inherited a natural feel for the skill. Immediately upon completion of her Bachelor of Music degree, she was appointed flute faculty and Director of Flute Choir at Williams College in Massachusetts. She has since served on the faculty of Zen Music Center, New York City’s Harmony Program, SoBe Institute of the Arts, Miami Music Project, and Miami Arts Charter School. Anthea is currently on faculty at Concord Community Music School in New Hampshire, and Brookline Music School in Massachusetts, where she is founder and coordinator of the BMS Summer Flute Institute. Anthea has coached for the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and adjudicated the MMEA Eastern District Auditions.
Anthea's students have ranged all levels, from beginners to college students and adults, and her students have consistently shown marked progress in auditions and performances. She firmly believes that music is an essential part of everyone’s education, regardless of background or means.
As a Suzuki inspired teacher, Anthea uses the "mother tongue approach" for young beginners, immersing students in the language of music through example and immersive listening. Parent involvement in student's weekly lessons and daily practice is a distinguishing attribute of the Suzuki method as well as students' participation in group lessons. With all students, Anthea encourages growth, confidence, problem solving skills, and self-awareness, all of which are vital life skills at any stage. Equally important is to instill an appreciation for music that will last a lifetime.

Parent Testimonial
"Anthea is fabulous with kids. She is patient, consistent, and thoughtful. Our kids adored her and were extremely sad when she left New York City. Both of our daughters (age 9 and 7) learned so much from Anthea and her joy of music and life. She is an outstanding role model."
-Mary Beth Terry, Associate Professor, Columbia University
"My 13 year old daughter has been studying flute for four years, and started taking lessons with Anthea during the 2011-2012 season. Aurora has improved tremendously. Anthea not only taught her music, she took on the challenge of correcting Aurora's technique. She is great with children of all ages, and I highly recommend her."
